Tips to Sticking With Your New Year’s Resolution

When New Year’s Eve comes around, many of us start making resolutions for the coming year. We talk about getting organized, getting in shape, and ditching bad habits. Yet by the first week of February, 80 percent of us are already off track. If you don’t want to fall into this statistic, discover a few tips for sticking with your New Year’s resolution.

Make It Specific: Instead of saying you want to get in shape, make your resolution a specific goal. By saying you want to lose 20 pounds, you have a clear and actionable goal you can work toward.

Focus on One Goal at a Time: If you’ve made several resolutions, it’s likely you won’t be able to handle them all at once. While some resolutions go hand in hand, such as losing weight and eating healthier, you’ll want to focus on others one at a time.

Take Baby Steps: Making a major resolution, such as working out at the gym five days a week, is a great goal. However, if you haven’t been to the gym in years, you’re likely setting yourself up for failure. Instead, start small and work your way up. Consider going to the gym twice a week in January, then three times a week in February, and so on until you reach your goal.

The upcoming year is sure to offer plenty of exciting changes. When you’re ready to get organized, eat healthy, and improve your credit score, you now know the tips needed to make those goals stick.
